HIROYA TSUKAMOTO WILL PERFORM ON JANUARY 27TH ACOUSTIC NIGHT

(Tuscaloosa, Ala.) Guitarist Hiroya Tsukamoto will be the featured artist in a performance on Acoustic Night on January 27, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bama Theatre. Presented by The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa, the project features both solo and ensemble performances of a wide range of acoustic music throughout the calendar year in the intimate setting of the theatre’s Greensboro Room. Cover charge is $10 with a full service bar available.

Hiroya Tsukamoto is a one of a kind composer, guitarist and singer-songwriter from Kyoto, Japan. He began playing the five-string banjo when he was 13 and the guitar shortly after. In 1994, Tsukamoto entered The Osaka University and while at college in Japan, was introduced to a musical and social movement in South America called Nueva Cancion. The movement was headed by musical legends such as Victor Jara and Violeta Parra.

In 2000, the artist received a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music and moved to the U.S. He completed a debut album titled “The Other Side of the World” with his band INTEROCEANICO which was released in 2004. His composition entitled “El Otro Lado del Mundo” was nominated as the finalist of The USA Songwriting Competition 2004 and “Samba de Siempre” in 2005. “Seventh Night” was a finalist in the International Acoustic Music Awards in 2006. Tsukamoto released his second album, “Confluencia”, in 2006 and the third album, “Where the River Shines”, in 2008.

Tsukamoto has been leading concerts with his ensemble including several appearances at Blue Note in New York, and he performed with Esperanza Spalding, Marta Gomez, Kendrick Scott (The Crusadors), Pete Kennedy (The Kennedys) and Dave Maxwell (Muddy Waters Band).

His recent album, “Heartland”, was released in August 2012 from 333discs. In October 2012, he completed four days of live performances on the Japan Public TV (NHK) program “El Mundo”.
