The Adopt-A-School program is a joint partnership between the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama and the Tuscaloosa City and Tuscaloosa County School Systems. In 1985 educators and business leaders had a vision of area businesses and schools developing an effective working relationship between the business and industrial community and the local school systems.
Four partnerships were initially created, and since 1985 the program has grown to the current participation of approximately 90 adopters for the 56 public schools in the Tuscaloosa City and Tuscaloosa County School Systems.
The Arts Council is a partner to Westwood Elementary School located in west Tuscaloosa County in Coker. The Council contributes to the high educational standards set by the school’s staff and faculty through such programs as Spectrafest, Westwood Art Month at the Bama and the Gail Skidmore Memorial Scholarship.
