First Friday, May 01, 2026

Downtown Tuscaloosa is putting a creative twist on tradition this spring, as the First Friday Art Walk returns May 1 with a lineup of exhibitions and gallery experiences.

Just down the road, the Paul R. Jones Museum will feature “The Domestic Liminal: The In-Betweeness of the Home,” a thought-provoking exhibition co-curated by Tiffany Hawkins and Scott Moore.

At Lorrie Lane Studio, the May First Friday event will run from 5 to 9 p.m., highlighting multiple exhibitions. In Gallery 22, “C2: A Collaborative Art Exhibit,” organized by Tiffany Amirkhanian, Ruth O'Connor and Trisha Schuster, will be on display, while the main studio will showcase paintings by Lorrie Lane.

At the University of Alabama Gallery, visitors can view “NO TITLE – Maz Derakhshani,” an exhibit that continues to be on display, offering another opportunity to experience the artist’s work.

Looking ahead, Harrison Galleries will host the 5th Annual Verner Art Show, curated by Tuscaloosa City Schools art teacher Molly Brooke Threadgill, on May 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. The event is expected to feature between 1,500 and 1,700 works of art in its second-floor gallery, representing students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.

The First Friday Art Walk continues to highlight Tuscaloosa’s vibrant arts community, offering residents and visitors a chance to explore local galleries, connect with artists and experience a diverse range of creative expression throughout downtown.
