The introduction of public art to local citizens is the result of efforts by the Tuscaloosa Public Art Committee, The Arts Council, and the City of Tuscaloosa. Large-scale sculptures continue to be installed throughout the city, including along the Northern Riverwalk.

Public art can be found in downtown Tuscaloosa, parks, along the Riverwalk, and on the UA campus. Benchmarking trips established by the Chamber of Commerce introduced participants to cities that value public art and its relationship to the overall economic impact of the arts. Monster Takeover, an extension of the Monster Makeover program established by the Tuscaloosa News, brings the work of participating artists to the public through small-scale 3-D bronze works installed throughout the downtown area. Visit monstertakeover.com for more information. Future Monster Takeover events will be announced here and on The Arts Council’s social media.
