ARTS ORGANIZATION MAKES DONATION TO RELIEF EFFORTS IN TUSCALOOSA
(Tuscaloosa) In the aftermath of the recent tornadoes, arts organizations both within and outside of Tuscaloosa County continue to make an impact. The Southern Watercolor Society recently donated $400 to the Tuscaloosa City Schools Disaster Relief Fund, with their gift earmarked for art classes. The organization is not based in any one state but represents artists in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
In addition to providing members of society with enrichment and education on an ongoing basis, arts and cultural organizations are always some of the first to donate time, funding and their craft toward relief efforts in times of need.
The Southern Watercolor Society, founded in 1975, is a non-profit corporation formed to elevate the stature of watercolor and educate the public to the significance of watercolor as an important creative permanent painting medium. The corporation is dedicated to the highest aesthetic standards. It is the aim of the organization to further the interests of painters in watercolor/ watermedia by its programs and competitive exhibits, and to encourage the study of watercolor by art students and others engaged in watercolor painting. It is open to artists in the 18 southern states.
