WINNERS OF THE 2013 VISUAL ART ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS ANNOUNCED

(Tuscaloosa) The Arts Council is pleased to announce the winners of the 2013 Visual Art Achievement Awards Exhibit on display at the Bama Theatre’s Junior League Gallery.  Exhibited from February 20 through March 18, the show will close with a reception and awards ceremony on March 18 from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. in the gallery.
The Visual Art Achievement Awards is a competition sponsored by the Alabama State Council on the Arts and administered each February on the local level by various groups such as The Arts Council. The exhibit consists of the winners, judge’s choice awards and honorable mentions awarded to students from local schools with works divided into two groups based on grade level.

Group I consists of middle school students in grades six through eight. Group II consists of high school students in grades nine through twelve. Entries are classified based on medium: drawing, painting, mixed-media, 3-D, print making, computer design, and photography.

The winners and judge’s choice winners are featured in Montgomery at the state level/competition exhibit with subsequent winners traveling to Washington, D.C. for the national level competition. Local teachers should contact Sharron Rudowski for further information about the competition. Information is also available at arts.alabama.gov.

Located at 600 Greensboro Avenue in Tuscaloosa, the galleries at the Bama Theatre are open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. – noon and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. and also during Bama Theatre events.  Enter the gallery through the PARA Building, located adjacent to the theatre, during daytime hours.
