UA’s SONIC FRONTIERS PRESENTS STRIKE AND ALLOY ORCHESTRA: SILENT FILM, LIVE MUSICAL SCORE
(TUSCALOOSA, Ala.) The University of Alabama’s Sonic Frontiers concert series will present its first concert of the 2018-2019 season on Tuesday, October 30th at 7:30 p.m. at the Bama Theatre. Alloy Orchestra will perform an original score to Sergei Eisenstein’s first full-length feature film, “Strike” (1925). The public is invited to attend this free event.
Alloy Orchestra composes and performs original scores to accompany classic silent films. Their unusual combination of found percussion and state-of-the-art electronics gives the Orchestra the ability to create any sound imaginable. Performing at prestigious film festivals and cultural centers in the U.S. and abroad (The San Francisco Silent Film Festival, The Telluride Film Festival, The Louvre, Lincoln Center, The Academy of Motion Pictures, the National Gallery of Art and others), Alloy has helped revive some of the great masterpieces of the silent era.
The Alloy Orchestra began scoring films in 1991 with Fritz Lang’s “Metropolis.” In the intervening years, the group has written scores for 32 feature length film presentations. Alloy has premiered their new scores at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado, the San Francisco Silent film Festival, the New York Film Festival and others.
Alloy Orchestra consists of Terry Donahue (junk percussion, musical saw, accordion), Ken Winokur (Director, percussion, clarinet) and Roger C. Miller (keyboard).

Sonic Frontiers is a cutting-edge concert series of innovative and experimental music that enriches the cultural life of West Alabama and invites creative exchange between world-class performers of adventurous music, students, and the greater community through public performances and lively post-concert discussions. The 2018-2019 season is the ninth and final season for Sonic Frontiers. All Sonic Frontiers events are free and open to the public.
