THREE FREE FEATURE FILMS ABOUT WORLD WAR II WILL BE SCREENED AT THE BAMA THEATRE IN AUGUST
(Tuscaloosa, Ala.) BBC Worldwide North America is commemorating the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II by offering three excellent films free of charge. Subjects range from crucial development of radar by a group of misfit scientists to one of Britain’s greatest writers accused of collaborating with the Nazis. Following up on last year’s highly successful program about World War I, these films are a more intimate and eclectic program of titles including major stars.
Screenings will take place at the Bama Theatre on August 10, 17 and 24 at 7:30 p.m., and each 90 minute film is free to the public.
“Castles in the Sky” (2014) Stars Eddie Izzard as Robert Watson Watt, the pioneer of radar who fought the scientific and political establishment in order to perfect his new technology in time to spot Nazi attacks during the war.
“Wodehouse in Exile” (2013) Stars Tim-Pigott Smith as famed humor writer P.G Wodehouse who was initially interned by the Nazi’s and later used for propaganda. Whether he understood his real role remains a controversy to this day.
“Copenhagen” (2002) Based on the award winning play by Michael Frayn, the film portrays the 1941 meeting of Danish physicist Niels Bohr and his former protégé, Werner Heisenberg, who became the top physicist in Nazi Germany. Stars Daniel Craig, Stephen Rea and Francesca Annis.
