THIRD ANNUAL “MONSTER MAKEOVER” EXHIBIT WILL BENEFIT TUSCALOOSA CITY SCHOOLS

(Tuscaloosa) The Tuscaloosa News and The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa will host the third annual “Monster Makeover” exhibit at the Bama Theatre on October 4 – 30, 2012.  The display will conclude with a reception honoring the students and the artists on Tuesday, October 30 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The exhibit and reception are open to the public.

In its third year, “Monster Makeover” is an exhibit consisting of drawings of creepy creatures designed by students from a local school and the interpretation of their work by over 60 West Alabama visual artists.  This year’s exhibit will feature the work of first grade students from the Tuscaloosa Magnet School. The students’ work along with their corresponding professional interpretation will be available for purchase as a pair by way of a silent auction.

A Best of Show award will be presented to the top professional work as selected by a group of judges. Activities will also feature storytelling, a live band on the Bama stage, refreshments and a booksigning. The evening will conclude with the presentation of the artist award and the announcement of the auction winners with payment and pick-up.

Books depicting color images of the student and professional art will be available for purchase priced at $25 each, and Monster Makeover t-shirts will also be available. Proceeds from the art auction, book and t-shirt sales and donations will benefit the arts in the Tuscaloosa City Schools.
