THE BEAR AND BLAINE DUNCAN FEATURED ON ACOUSTIC NIGHT

(Tuscaloosa) Shoals-based band The Bear and vocalist Blaine Duncan will be the featured musicians on the upcoming Acoustic Night at the Bama Theatre’s Greensboro Room. The performance will take place on March 1, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.

Based in the Shoals area of North Alabama, The Bear began as a collaboration between singer-songwriter spouses Louisa Murray and Nathan Pitts. The couple began performing as a duo in 2006 and gradually added an ensemble of multi-instrumentalists to expand their sound, with members rotating among drums, bass, acoustic and electric guitars, pedal steel, banjo, ukulele, keyboards, woodwinds and a variety of percussion instruments.

The band’s sophomore album, Overseas Then Under, was primarily recorded in the couple’s house by Ben Tanner. Working in the comforts of home allowed the band to fully explore the full range of its sonic palette. At the focal center of the album are Murray’s and Pitts’ songs, which explore Southern tales that range from childlike innocence to murderous disillusionment. The album was recently chosen as one of Amazon.com’s Best Albums of 2013. For Acoustic Night, the band will be playing stripped down versions of their songs as a trio featuring Louisa Murray (vocals, ukulele), Nathan Pitts(vocals, guitar) and Daniel Stoddard (pedal steel.

Blaine Duncan fronts the band Blaine Duncan & the Lookers and is originally from Sulligent, Alabama.  He is a graduate of The University of Alabama and has resided in Tuscaloosa for over fifteen years.  After beginning his career as a solo artist, Blaine Duncan & the Lookers formed in 2006 and have released two albums.  His songs feature themes about Southern life and the heartbroken weariness often associated with it, tied together in live shows with his witty, tongue-in-cheek banter.

Presented by The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa, Acoustic Night features both established and upcoming musicians from around the country throughout the calendar year in the intimate setting of the Bama Theatre’s Greensboro Room. Cover charge is $5 with a full service bar available.

The Bama Theatre is located at 600 Greensboro Avenue in downtown Tuscaloosa.
