HOLIDAY MUSIC ASSEMBLY WITH DONNA SMITH AS COCOA THE ELF
Join Cocoa the Elf in a festive music integration assembly program for elementary students. Students will actively engage in singing familiar holiday songs, rhythmic patterns with body percussion, and dramatization with movement. Donna Smith is an experienced music and arts integration specialist. Available for audiences up to 200 students in Tuscaloosa City and Tuscaloosa County Schools.
AVAILABLE: December 7-December 15, 2023
GRADE OPTIONS: 1st and 2nd grade assembly and/or 3rd and 4th grade assembly.
FEE: $250 per 40/minute assembly

ALABAMA CHOIR SCHOOL

Offering four different choirs for you in separate age groups between grades 1-12. ACS performs an entertaining 30-minute program of wide-ranging musical styles and languages. 25 – 50 minutes. GRADES: 1-12 each semester in mid to late November and late April FEE: Free

A BLAST OF BRASS

A fun-filled 45-minute program designed to introduce students to the brass family of the symphony orchestra. This narrated program is presented by the Tuscaloosa Symphony Brass Quintet. Designed for audiences up to 500. GRADES: K-6 FEE: $275

SINGING FROM BACH TO ROCK

The Bach to Rock ensemble at Shelton State Community College presents a wide variety of songs from 17th century art songs to the popular styles of today. Fridays only. GRADES: K-8 during late October, November, March, and April

TSO TEACHES: MUSICAL READ ALOUDS WITH MS. P 

Learn all about the orchestra in this engaging, 45 minute elementary music and literacy lesson taught by Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra Executive Director and Music Educator, Natassia Perrine. Students will explore the families of the orchestra, learn a song about the instruments and perform it along to a read aloud of a children’s book.  GRADES: PK-2. TSO EDUCATION QUINTET 

This traveling team of musicians was designed to bring the orchestra to ALL young audience members across West Alabama. If your school is in Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marengo, Pickens, Sumnter, this engaging music program was designed just for you. Your students will explore the woodwind family of instruments, participate in a musical story and have a Q&A with our Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra musicians.  GRADES: PK-5. BLUES IN SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES

The Alabama Blues Project’s 1-hour in-school assembly programs focus on identifying, preserving, and presenting Blues folk traditions, specifically highlighting the contributions of Alabama’s Blues artists.  Students get to experience hand-made traditional African instruments and learn the history of how the instruments were made.  Participants also sing along and learn biographical information about musical legends and the history of the socioeconomic conditions that influenced the creation of the Blues. GRADES: K-8. FEE: $350

THEATRE UAB: “THE PRINCESS & THE PEA” This commedia version of the classic fairytale bursts with physical humor and witty banter! Written by Rebecca L. Byars & Lane Riosley and directed by Jack Cannon. 40 minutes. Fridays only. GRADES: K-5. BIRMINGHAM CHILDREN’S THEATRE: “STAY AWAKE” BY MARY HALL SURFACE

Imagine an upside down lullaby: Mia and her Dog are getting ready for bed when her mobile comes to life! Using music, movement, and puppetry, young theatre makers will explore shapes, sounds, numbers, and more in this interactive production. Stay Awake invites children into a theatrical world where anything is possible. The next installment in our Theatre For The Very Young Series! 40 minutes.

Adventurous Grigsby, spirited Gloria, and book-loving Grace build a bridge to explore the great wide world. But a bullying troll has other plans. The three goats must face their fears and combine their talents to out-smart the troll and chase their dreams. 45 minutes.

The Adventures of Nick Nutrition & His Dog Fiber by Tom Quinn
Who will save the world from the villains of bad eating habits? Have no fear! Nick Nutrition and his wonder dog Fiber are here! By day, an average boy and his dog, but, after school, they become an intrepid pair of superheroes dedicated to improving the minds and bodies of the kids  and parents of our fair city. This play offers a fun and entertaining introduction to good eating habits and the importance of daily activity, while providing students with a head start to a healthy future. With Nick’s courage and Fiber’s intelligence, students are empowered to take control of their health!  Programs are approximately 60 minutes and include a question and answer session after the show.

Poarch Creek Courage by Mariah Beachboard
Leigh Ann faces bullies at school. Her discontent sparks a supernatural visit from a Creek ancestor from the 1700’s. This matriarch reveals wisdom and courage over the course of four tales. After reliving tales of the Poarch Creek history, Leigh Anne courageously faces her own school bullies. Outcast, oppressed, and forgotten, the most courageous Alabamian community stands against every challenge to become an inspiring success story!  Programs are approximately 60 minutes and include a question and answer session after the show. Freedom Riders by Tom Quinn

Join two girls from 1961, Jennifer and Tiffany, as they explore the intense history behind the Civil Rights Movement. As Jennifer persuades Tiffany to join her on the Freedom Ride to Alabama, historical figures appear to share their own stories. From Martin Luther King, Jr. to Malcolm X to the Little Rock Nine students, witness history come to life onstage. But will their stories be enough to convince Tiffany to join the freedom ride herself? Programs are approximately 60 minutes and include a question and answer session after the show. Grades: 6th-12th; Fee: $1,250 per show + .62 cents per mile round trip
