SINGER SONGWRITER ROCK KILLOUGH WILL APPEAR ON JUNE ACOUSTIC NIGHT
(Tuscaloosa, Ala.) The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa will present noted singer/songwriter Rock Killough in concert on Acoustic Night, June 17, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Bama Theatre’s Greensboro Room with doors opening at 7 p.m. Cover charge is $10.
A native of Alabama, Rock Killough began playing guitar at age 8, and by the time he graduated from high school, he knew the road down which his future would lead. He honed his songwriting skills during a stint in the Army, in college and even more years in the 9-5 workday environment.
In 1976 he found himself in Nashville, a protégé of legendary songwriter Hank Cochran (“I Fall To Pieces”; “Make The World Go Away”) and signed to one the largest publishing houses in country music. Killough’s success includes singles by Randy Travis and Brenda Lee, songs on two gold albums by the Oak Ridge Boys, and gold and platinum albums by Hank Williams, Jr. and Sammy Kershaw. He has a song on Hank Williams, Jr.’s infamous “Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound” album as well as cuts by Waylon Jennings, Jerry Reed, Carole King, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mickey Newbury, Johnny Rodriguez and numerous others. He also appeared on the first “Austin City Limits” Songwriter’s Special and has opened concerts for Willie Nelson, John Prine and Townes Van Zandt, to name a few.
In 1985, Killough returned to Alabama where he continues to perform, write, record and tell his amazing story with a poignant humor that is sure to make him a favorite of all who are fortunate enough to encounter him. He enjoys settings where he can share his music in a meaningful way including house concerts, listening rooms, songwriters’ festivals and intimate venues. Killough performs on the guitar, piano and harmonica.
