(Tuscaloosa) The Collegiate Arts and Humanities Council of Tuscaloosa County will host the second “Poetry Slam at the Bama” on Thursday, October 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bama Theatre. Emcee for the evening will be Abraham Smith, poet and Instructor of Literature and Creative Writing at The University of Alabama. Celebrity Judges will include faculty from Stillman College, UA, and Shelton State as well as a special guest from Birmingham, Alabama. One judge will also be chosen from the attending audience. “Poetry Slam” is a competition for local poets that will take place at the Bama’s Greensboro Room with cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Requirements include: 1. Original material only; 2. Three minute time limit per poem; 3. No props. The evening will also feature a 15 minute “open mic” portion during intermission for those who wish to share their poetry with the audience, but not participate in the competition.
There is no entry fee for participants, but the cover charge for all those attending the event will be $5. Free popcorn with purchase of a drink as well as other concessions will be available. The Bama Theatre is located at 600 Greensboro Avenue in downtown Tuscaloosa.
