PHOTOGRAPHY BY WARREN SIMONS PRESENTED AT THE DINAH WASHINGTON CULTURAL ARTS CENTER IN NOVEMBER

(TUSCALOOSA, Ala.) The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa will present an exhibit of works by photographer Warren Simons Nov. 2-30, 2018 in The Arts Council Gallery at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center. Titled “Visual Surprises: Hiding in Plain Sight,” the exhibit will open with a reception on the Nov. 2 First Friday from 5-8 p.m.

Simons’ images express moments of clear, fresh connection with the visual world, creating beautiful, original compositions where eye, mind, and heart converge. He follows his own road of self-study, learning from photographers, painters, art teachers, writers, potters and poets. The artist has practiced the art of seeing with the camera for 15 years.

“The world is full of visual surprises hiding in plain sight. I do not search for them. I aim to stay calm, move slowly, and look deeply. With no preconceived ideas of what I will see and photograph, I let the visual surprises find me,” said Simons.

Having grown up in Massachusetts, the artist lived in New York City for 25 years and now makes his home in Montgomery, Ala. Photography is his passion, but by day he is a desktop editor. Simons has won numerous awards for his work around the state, including Best in Show in The Arts Council’s Double Exposure Statewide Photography Exhibit. He is represented by Stonehenge Gallery in Montgomery, Ala.

The Arts Council Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-noon and 1 – 4 p.m. on weekdays and noon-8 p.m. on First Fridays. The gallery is closed on weekends. Admission is free.
