HAVE MERSEY! AND SHINY MACHINE FEATURED ON MARCH 17 ACOUSTIC NIGHT
(Tuscaloosa) Acoustic Night will feature the duo Have Mersey! and local band Shiny Machine on March 17, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. Presented by The Arts Council, Acoustic Night features new and upcoming musicians from around the country throughout the calendar year in the intimate setting of the Bama Theatre’s Greensboro Room. Cover is $5 with a full service bar available. The theatre is located at 600 Greensboro Avenue in downtown Tuscaloosa.

Have Mersey!
Mike Orlin and David Allgood have been friends and musical partners for over thirty years, having teamed up in Atlanta in the mid-1970’s playing in the local club scene that spawned REM, Indigo Girls, Tinsley Ellis(who played in David’s band!) and The Georgia Satellites. During this time period, the pair also began writing songs together and formed a band around their original material: The Legendary Atlanta Crackers. As a duo or with their full band, Orlin and Allgood opened for many national acts on Atlanta stages well into the mid-1980’s including John Prine, Roseanne Cash, Leon Russell, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Asleep at The Wheel – to name but a few.
Mike made a surprise visit to David at his birthday party last November and, as often happens when the two get together, a spontaneous late-night jam broke out. During the course of the evening, they re-discovered their love for British invasion music – especially The Beatles – and as a result, Have Mersey! was formed.
The Acoustic Night performance on March 17 will be the first show the two have done together in over twenty years. Expect to hear acoustic versions of obscure Lennon-McCartney tunes, complementary original songs, close harmonies, stellar guitar work from Mike and – as David promises – “Some honest and heart-felt mistakes.”
Shiny Machine
Local band Shiny Machine will bring a tremendous variety of musical style to the Acoustic Night stage including rock, blues, funk and jazz. The Tuscaloosa based band is composed of Jim Corriher (guitar, vocals), Dwayne Pruitt (drums), Rennie Jackson (bass guitar, vocals) and Rob Nolan (guitar, vocals). Their new self-titled debut album is available for download and locally at Oz Music and Grace Aberdeen Habitat Alchemy.
