EXHIBIT OF WORKS BY ARTIST MARK BARRY FEATURED IN
TUSCALOOSA’S CULTURAL ARTS CENTER

(Tuscaloosa, AL) The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa will present “Mnemonic” at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center March 3 – 28, 2014. The exhibit will feature works in acrylic on canvas by artist Mark Barry in The Arts Council Gallery.

“Mnemonic” is the MFA thesis exhibition of Mark Robert Barry, a graduate student at The University of Alabama. The show will feature geometric abstract paintings that use shape and spatial relationships, as well as evidence of process history as a way of activating memory. The shapes are created by allowing previous layers of color to show through at the edges. These artifacts of what once was act as a type of painted stratum with which viewers can engage and explore.

Barry is a candidate for the Master of Fine Arts degree in painting. Prior to graduate school, he spent a decade in the world of graphic design and brand strategy, including creating the current logo and website for The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa. He lives in Tuscaloosa with his wife and two children.

A reception will be held on March 7 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. during Downtown Tuscaloosa’s First Friday event. The Arts Council Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – noon and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. on weekdays and noon – 8 p.m. on First Fridays.

The Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center is located at 620 Greensboro Avenue in Downtown Tuscaloosa.
