Ringo Lisko Solo Exhibition

January 14

UA BFA alumna Ringo Lisko will present a solo exhibition of her recent sculpture, Vessels of Paranoia, at Harrison Galleries, opening with a First Friday Jazz Reception, January 7, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The show will be open through January 30, 2022.

Lisko said that she draws inspiration “from the body, sensuality and awareness,” and values “the power art has to engage community and guide thought, dialogue and action.” She wants to make the viewer aware of their own inner fears, vulnerabilities as well as strengths in this new body of work. She hopes to “challenge the viewer by walking the line between attraction and discomfort.”

Lisko describes the media and how she works: “My current body of work utilizes cast and fabricated metal, in conjunction with less traditional materials such as rubber, fabric and hair, to create sensual forms which bring awareness to nuances of body and space. Many works also involve body-based, performative elements (i.e. hair cutting or touch-patination) which further implicates the body through the question of presence and absence.”

A New Mexico native, Ringo Lisko earned her BFA in studio art from UA in 2020 with concentrations in sculpture and drawing. She now works as a foundry specialist in the department of art and art history’s metal shop. Most recently, she was awarded the statewide prize to design and create the first work for the McMahon-Pleiad Public Art Trail initiative, a cast bronze sculpture, Flourishinstalled in the Woods Quad Sculpture Garden in November. Lisko’s work has appeared in numerous shows and community sculpture projects. More of her work can be seen on her website and Instagram page.
