DINAH WASHINGTON CULTURAL ARTS CENTER WILL FEATURE WORKS BY SUSAN VITALI
(TUSCALOOSA, Ala.) An exhibit by artist Susan Vitali titled “One Thing Follows Another” will be featured at The Arts Council Gallery at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center. The display will be open to the public September 6-27, 2019 with an opening reception held on Friday, September 6 from 5-8 p.m. during First Friday.
A collector of objects, images, and human experiences, Vitali’s work begins with gathering and researching. Utilizing that data she creates paintings, prints and objects that are often poetic. Drawn to the irresistible sensuality of textures and materials, her pieces open spaces for intuitive, emotional responses. Materiality and the uncanny are explored. While some objects in Vitali’s work are recognizable, others are more ambiguous, allowing viewers to make their own associations. Recurring themes include handwriting, unintentional collections, circles and ovals.
Vitali holds an MFA in Print Media from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Her work is held in multiple private and corporate collections including the Ford Motor Company, Providence Hospital and Aflac Insurance. She has exhibited in Canada, Australia and across the U.S.
