 COMMUNITY ARTS CONVERSATIONS AND DOUBLE EXPOSURE ADULT DIVISION OPENING DURING FEBRUARY FIRST FRIDAY

(Tuscaloosa, Ala.) The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa will host Community Arts Conversations and the 2018 Double Exposure Photography Competition Adult Division opening reception at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center. Taking place on First Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, the photography exhibit reception will be open from 5-8 p.m. and Community Arts Conversations will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Free and open to the public, numerous groups from Tuscaloosa County will be featured during Community Arts Conversations from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Grand Hall. Organized by The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa, the goal of the event is introduce local cultural organizations to the public and provide information about them and their staff on a personal level. Ticket giveaways for upcoming events and other promotional initiatives will also take place. A number of participating performing arts organizations will also be showcased in the Black Box Theatre, offering excerpts from theatrical or musical works. Organizations performing include:

5:30- Tuscaloosa Children’s Theatre
5:45- Theatre Tuscaloosa
6:00- Actor’s Charitable Theatre
6:15- The Dance Initiative
6:30- Double Exposure Photography Competition Awards (Adult Division)
7:00- Alabama Blues Project

“The first Community Arts Conversations event took place in 2012, and since that time, Tuscaloosa County’s arts and cultural organizations have continued to grow, surpassing standards of quality and creativity. Providing dance, theatre, literary, musical and visual art events, our local arts organizations continually increase the quality of life for local citizens. Community Arts Conversations provides an opportunity to meet the individuals that make such an impact on our community,” said Sandra Wolfe, Executive Director of The Arts Council.

The opening of the 2018 Double Exposure Photography Competition (Adult Division) will take place from 5-8 p.m. in The Arts Council Gallery. In its 15th year, the competition was open to photographers from Alabama with both Adult and Junior divisions. The Purchase Award and other cash awards will be presented at 6:30 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre.
