BAMA THEATRE CELEBRATES 75TH ANNIVERSARY WITH BAMA ART HOUSE AND JUDY COLLINS

(Tuscaloosa)  2013 marks the 75th Anniversary of the opening of Tuscaloosa’s historic Bama Theatre. In addition to the Judy Collins performance on September 7, The Arts Council is recognizing this special event with a party prior to the first film of the Bama Art House Fall Series, Muscle Shoals, on September 3rd.

The Bama Art House Fall Film Series will begin on September 3, 2013 and will feature eight films.  A program of The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa, this exciting series represents the organization’s goals to bring new and unique film to the West Alabama area.  Screenings will take place on Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. with the box office opening at 6:30 p.m. and doors at 6:45 p.m. One film, The Act of Killing, will be screened on Thursday, September 26, with the remaining titles all screened on Tuesdays.

The Arts Council is paying tribute to this significant time in the social, cultural and architectural history of Tuscaloosa with a party prior to the first film of the series, Muscle Shoals, on September 3rd. The evening will feature live music at 6 p.m. with the Muscle Shoals, AL based group “The Bear” and a birthday cake. Admission to the party requires a ticket to the screening.

The Left Hand Soap Company will sponsor two films, Muscle Shoals and C.O.G.

Instead of the discounted complete series subscription tickets, punch card tickets will now be offered at the box office for $50 for ten films in any of the series throughout the year. Individual tickets are $7 general, $6 students/seniors and $5 for Arts Council members. Patrons can visit bamatheatre.org/bamaarthouse to view the list of films and accompanying trailers.

The mission of the Bama Art House series is to bring current and contemporary independent film to West Alabama, transforming the historic Bama Theatre into a cinematic art house.
