APOCRYPHA” EXHIBIT WILL BE FEATURED AT THE DINAH WASHINGTON CULTURAL ARTS CENTER IN SEPTEMBER

(Tuscaloosa, Ala.) “Apocrypha”, an exhibit of works in oil by artist Tom Wegrzynowski, will be the featured display at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center Sept. 4-25, 2015. A reception honoring the artist will take place on Sept. 4 from 5-8 p.m. during First Friday.

Tom Wegrzynowski is an artist based in Tuscaloosa, Ala. He earned his Master of Fine Art degree from The University of Alabama in 2006 with a concentration in painting. He has exhibited work nationally, most recently at Jonathan Ferrara Gallery in New Orleans, Contemporary Arts Center in Las Vegas and Transmission Gallery in Oakland, Calif. The artist has also presented solo shows at the Malone Gallery at Troy University and the Sarah Moody Gallery of Art in Tuscaloosa as well as two man shows at the Bagwell Center for Media and Art in Knoxville, Tenn. and the Meridian, Miss. Museum of Art.

Awards for his work include the Trudy Williamson Award for Excellence in Two Dimensional Work from the St. Tammany Art Association in Covington, La. and the Howard & Michael Goodson and Richard Zoellner Purchase Award from The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa. He is also a past recipient of an emergency support grant from the Joan Mitchell Foundation.

In addition to painting, Wegrzynowski is also interested in collaborative projects. These include the “Hand to Hand” chronicle of the Iraq War, which was curated by Cecelia Kane and exhibited nationally; illustrations for Alan May’s anthology, “Dead Letters”,which was published by BlazeVOX in 2009; and Jerry Cullum’s conceptual catalog of the “First Walker Street Biennial”. Prints relating to a previous Alan May collaboration, “Notes Toward an Apocryphal Text”, were added to the Avant Writing collection at Ohio State University.

Wegrzynowski is currently a full time instructor of studio and art history at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where he lives and works with his wife, book artist Charlotte Wegrzynowski, and two sons, Sam and Ben.

Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. on weekdays and noon-8 p.m. on First Fridays.
