TRAVELING BICENTENNIAL ART EXHIBITION WILL BE DISPLAYED IN TUSCALOOSA IN MARCH

(TUSCALOOSA, Ala.) The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa will host “Alabama, Then and Now,” a traveling Bicentennial art exhibition by members of the Alabama Plein Air Artists. Taking place March 7-28 in The Arts Council Gallery at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center, the exhibit will open with a reception on March 7 from 5-8 p.m.

"Alabama, Then and Now" is a commemorative and educational art exhibition of 30 original paintings in honor of Alabama’s Bicentennial. All paintings were created by members of the Alabama Plein Air Artists (APAA) who gather monthly around the state to paint en plein air (in the "open air") outdoors, from life. The paintings depict landmarks and regions of Alabama where these artists live or have traveled and painted from life. Subjects include bridges and barns, gins and mills, the natural beauty of Alabama, industry, architecture, sports, government and popular culture.

From October 2018 - November 2019, this juried exhibition will tour through Hoover, Fort Payne, Athens, Tuscaloosa, the State Capitol in Montgomery, Pike Road, Auburn, Mobile, Hamilton and Huntsville. Many paintings will be for sale and entry is free and open to the public.

This exhibition is officially endorsed by the Alabama Bicentennial Commission. A tour schedule can be found at alabamapleinairartists.com and paintings can be viewed by visiting www.hooversmagazine.com/alabama-then-and-now.

The Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center is located at 620 Greensboro Avenue in Downtown Tuscaloosa.
