ACOUSTIC NIGHT TO HOST VOODOO SAINTS RELEASE PARTY

(Tuscaloosa)  Acoustic Night will host a CD release party featuring local Dixieland/jazz ensemble The Voodoo Saints on March 7, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bama Theatre’s Greensboro Room.  The CD, titled “Voodoo Saints,” is the first to be released by the group.

The Voodoo Saints, a Tuscaloosa-based traditional jazz trio, erupt with excitement on their introductory eponymous album.  The group features Nathan Holaway on reeds (Soprano Sax, Alto Sax, Clarinet, Vocals), John Holaway (Acoustic Guitar, Banjo, Vocals) and Adrian Marmolejo (Acoustic Bass, Vocals).  The trio strives to capture the spirit of New Orleans with a variety of tracks ranging from the classic jazz sounds of Louis Armstrong (“Shine”) and Sidney Bechet (“Shake It and Break It”) to more modern, swampy numbers by Dr. John (“I Walk on Guilded Splinters”) and Professor Longhair (“Big Chief”).  On this disc, one can also hear tracks made famous by Jelly Roll Morton, Art Neville and Danny Barker.  The Voodoo Saints’ sound is a wonderful gumbo of charm usually found from French Quarter street musicians paired with raw emotion typical of brass bands.

Presented by The Arts Council, Acoustic Night features new and upcoming musicians from around the country throughout the calendar year in the intimate setting of the Greensboro Room.  Cover is $5 with a full service bar available. The Bama Theatre is located at 600 Greensboro Avenue in downtown Tuscaloosa.
