(TUSCALOOSA, Ala.) The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa will host Community Arts Conversations and an exhibit in recognition of Black History Month at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center. Taking place on First Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, the exhibit reception will be open from 5-8 p.m. and Community Arts Conversations will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Free and open to the public, numerous groups from Tuscaloosa County will be featured during Community Arts Conversations from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Grand Hall. Established by The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa in 2012, the goal of the event is to introduce local cultural organizations to the public and provide information about the groups and their staff on a personal level. Ticket giveaways for upcoming events and other promotional initiatives will also take place. A number of participating performing arts organizations will also be showcased in the Black Box Theatre, offering excerpts from theatrical or musical works.

5:30 p.m.-Tuscaloosa Children’s Theatre

6 p.m. -Alabama Blues Project

6:30 p.m.-Theatre Tuscaloosa

7 p.m. -Tuscaloosa Community Dancers

Also on First Friday, the opening of an exhibit in recognition of Black History Month will take place from 5-8 p.m. in The Arts Council Gallery. Artists include Yvonne Wells, students from The University of Alabama, and artists from the West Alabama area including Tuscaloosa, Fayette and Jefferson counties.
