2013 DOUBLE EXPOSURE WINNERS ANNOUNCED

(Tuscaloosa) TheArts Council of Tuscaloosa is pleased to announce the winners (listed below) of the annual Double Exposure Juried Photography competition.  Open to photographers from throughout the state of Alabama, the competition is now in its tenth year. 

Artists were allowed to enter up to five works in both Adult and Junior categories, and any photographic media was accepted.  36 pieces were chosen out of 92 entries in the Adult Division and 65 selected out of 203 entries in the Junior Division.  The judge for both rounds was Dominic Lipillo, Assistant Professor of Art, Mississippi State University.

Adult Division awards were contributed by Harrison Galleries and the Junior Division Awards by American Shutterbug.  

Adult Division:
$500 Purchase Award/Best of Show- John Demotte, Birmingham, for “Blue Eyes”
$250 Cash Award- Philip E. Griffith, Birmingham, for “Fallen”
$250 Cash Award- Elliot Knight, Tuscaloosa, for “Master Boat Builders”
$250 Cash Award- Lynn Schmidt, Birmingham, for “Waffle House Old Greensboro”
$250 Cash Award- Joi West, Tuscaloosa, for “Escarpment”

Junior Division:
$300 Cash Award/Best of Show- Kate Perry, Birmingham, for “Gnobi Woman”
$175 Cash Award- Marguerite Edmonds, Birmingham, for “Jump Shack”
$175 Cash Award- Summer Johnson, Pike Road, for “Nager”
$175 Cash Award- Megan Stewart, Montgomery, for “Housewife”
$175 Cash Award- Charlotte Weaver, Mountain Brook, for “Market”

The exhibit is currently on display at the Bama Theatre’s Junior League Gallery and Greensboro Room.  A closing reception and awards presentation will take place on Sunday, February 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the theatre.

The galleries are open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. – noon and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. and also during Bama Theatre events.  Enter through the PARA Building, located adjacent to the theatre, during daytime hours.
