2012 West Alabama Juried Show Winners Announced

THE ARTS COUNCIL ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF THE 2012 WEST ALABAMA JURIED SHOW

(Tuscaloosa)  The Arts Council is presenting the 28th Annual West Alabama Juried Show exhibit through December 18, 2011 at the Bama Theatre’s Junior League Gallery. The exhibit is featuring original two- and three-dimensional works by West Alabama artists in a variety of media including oil, watercolor, acrylic, fiber, wood and photography, with most pieces available for purchase.

A closing reception honoring the winners and the artists accepted to the exhibit will be held on Tuesday, December 18th from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Bama Theatre. The public is invited to attend.

Visual artists 18 and older residing in Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Perry, Sumter, Tuscaloosa and Walker counties were eligible. 45 artists entered 121 total pieces with 77 chosen to appear in the exhibit. Jeffrey Haupt, Professor of Art at Mississippi State University, judged the show.

Three Awards of Excellence – $100 each

Yorgo Pasadeos for “Alley”
Amy Pirkle for “The River”

Honorable Mentions
Janis Edwards for “Album of the Memory of Birds 36”
Barbara Portch for “Backward Looking”
Astri Snodgrass for “Interuption”

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.  The gallery is also available for viewing during Bama Theatre events. Patrons should enter the gallery through the Arts Council offices, located on the second floor of the PARA Building, adjacent to the theatre, during daytime hours.
