2013 WEST ALABAMA JURIED SHOW WINNERS ANNOUNCED

 (Tuscaloosa) The winners of The Arts Council’s 29th Annual Juried Show for West Alabama artists have been chosen and with other accepted works, will appear Nov. 12 through Dec. 13, 2013 at the Bama Theatre. A public reception honoring the winners will be held on Nov. 17 from 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. in the Junior League Gallery.

The show was open to visual artists 18 and older residing in Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Perry, Sumter, Tuscaloosa and Walker counties. 84 works representing 29 artists were submitted with 56 pieces chosen to appear in the exhibit. The judge for the show was Michael Willett, Assistant Professor of Art / Director of Foundations, from The University of Montevallo.

The winners are:

$750 Purchase Award: Jamey Grimes for "Strata XI"
$300 Cash Award: Nick Davis for "Nothing's Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now"
$100 Award of Excellence: Tom Rogers for "Intensity"
$100 Award of Excellence: Claire Siepser for "Baggage Carnival"
$100 Award of Excellence: Diana Whitmer-Francko for "Memories in a Jar"
Honorable Mention: Allison Durham for "Soil"
Honorable Mention: Amy Pirkle for "Close to Home"
Honorable Mention: Shannon Thacker for "Cradle"

The West Alabama Juried Show represents The Arts Council’s aim to promote the arts in Tuscaloosa County. The annual exhibit gives local artists the opportunity to broaden their personal artistic goals through competition and connect with others working toward the same objectives. “The visual arts community in Tuscaloosa County and West Alabama is continually expanding while the creative depth and range of the submitted works is always impressive,” said Sharron Rudowski, Director of Educational Programming and Gallery Coordinator.       

The Bama Theatre is located at 600 Greensboro Avenue in downtown Tuscaloosa.
