Adult Division Important Dates

Eligibility

The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa is sponsoring its 15th Annual Double Exposure Photography Competition for Adults at The Arts Council Gallery in the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center February 2-23, 2018. A $35 entry fee entitles any Alabama photographer ages 18 and up to submit up to three works for judging. Only original works by those residing in Alabama may enter. Images must not have been previously shown in a Double Exposure or West Alabama Juried Show.

Entry Fee

A fee of $35 will be charged to enter up to three images. No entry fees will be refunded.

Awards

Howard & Michael Goodson and Richard Zoellner Best in Show Award - $500
(Best in Show winner will be invited to have a solo exhibit at an Arts Council gallery at a later date.)
Four $250 Cash Awards

Submitting-December 11-17, 2017

Two rounds of judging will take place, the first to choose photos that will appear in the exhibit, and the second, in person, to select the winners. Works submitted for the first round of judging will be accepted through a digital upload on the website submittable.com. To begin your entry process, click on the link on this page, and you will be redirected to the submittable.com site where you will establish an account. THIS LINK WILL NOT APPEAR UNTIL DECEMBER 11. You may submit up to three images, all of which must be in .jpg format and preferably no larger than 2.5 megabytes. Larger images are acceptable, but your upload time and the judge’s time viewing the images will be much faster with a smaller image. Keep in mind, images should be clear enough for your piece to be judged at its best, but small enough for upload. For each image, you must enter a title (required, “Untitled” not acceptable); dimensions and description; a price for sales and/or insurance purposes (even if not for sale).

Once the jury process is complete, you will be notified by email about the status of your entries.

Delivery of Accepted Works and Framing

Accepted works must be delivered to The Arts Council office in the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center, 620 Greensboro Avenue, downtown Tuscaloosa, January 22-26, 2018 during office hours of 9 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. All pieces accepted for the show must be ready for hanging and matted, framed and under glass.  Frames must be equipped with wire securely attached for hanging. Wires must not show above the frame. Loose wires, saw tooth brackets or other hangers are not acceptable, and the work will be rejected prior to final judging. Visit this site to view guidelines for proper framing: http://www.onlineartcenter.com/framing.html. Total size of work, including the mat and frame should be no larger than 32” x 32”. All works should be labeled on the back upper right corner with completed labels provided by clicking on the link on this page. All works must be titled. “Untitled” is not acceptable. Works chosen for the exhibit must be matted in white or off white mat board in dark brown or black simple frames. WRAPPED CANVASES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

All works accepted for the exhibit must have the provided identification tag attached to the back upper right corner of the piece including name, title of piece, and price.

ANY WORKS NOT MEETING THE AFOREMENTIONED STANDARDS WILL BE SUBJECT TO ELIMINATION.

Pick-up and Publicity

Works accepted for the exhibit must remain until the conclusion of the exhibit. Pick up will be February 26, 2018 through March 2. All works will be insured while in the custody of The Arts Council, however, works will not be insured or considered to be in our custody prior to or after the designated dates. Any work accepted for the show (with the exception of the Purchase Award winner) may be priced to sell to the public. Buyers will be referred to the artist for purchases; The Arts Council will not handle transactions. Works which are not picked up within six months may be donated to charity. The gallery charges no commission on sales for this competition. The Arts Council reserves the right to utilize images of accepted and/or winning entries for publicity or educational purposes and display those images at our discretion.
